My COM2 went dark yesterday just after engine startup. Judging by the burned electronics smell, I'm guessing a component or a circuit board fried. I'm hoping I don't have to take out a home equity loan to have the unit fixed - if it's fixable.

I still had a fully operational COM1, via my 430W, and I also have a Sporty's SP-400 handheld for a backup, so I completed my short, VFR, round-trip flight, but I felt naked as a jaybird.

Just curious: anyone out there routinely flying with just one COM?
