I did a prebuy flight in a Cherokee this weekend. The plane had two problems - 1) The vacuum pump failed during their flight (but the Backup vacuum system worked well). 2) The autopilot did fine in heading and nav mode but once the pitch moved was engaged the plane went into a steep climb. A mechanic will look at it next week but I am curious. Could the failed vacuum pump cause the step pitch?
