I have a new IFD440 and would like to practice with it in the aircraft but obviously it would run down the battery. I see where you can buy a 12 V power supply for several hundred dollars fro Aircraft Spruce. I have a LiPo battery jumper that has a 12v/15A output. Could I alligator clip it to the battery when running the IFD to keep the main battery up? Would it damage the unit? I figure that 12V DC is 12 V DC. I asked Avidyne and my dealer but did not get a response.

I have the iPad simulator and it is OK but there are sometimes that I would like to practice with the real thing.
