796 GXM-42 puck died, alternatives

Well, looks like my GXM-42 SiriusXM puck has died. It is recognized by the 796, but it continually indicates powering up, and doesn't, so my Sirius weather feed is dead. Did all the obvious things.

Sure there is FIS-B, and I have that with FF/Stratus, but I'm in Canada so coverage is sketchy for local flights. And, IAC prefer to have XM for primary use.

The pucks are no longer sold. But really to future proof this (the 796 might go TU as well) I thought I'd get the GDL-51, which I could use with FF as well the 796 as well as newer Garmin dedicated portables.

Anyone with a similar setup? Thoughts or comments?
