I live in Arizona and plan on doing some flights to Mexico. With the requirement for the 406 ELT I am looking for suggestions for a new ELT. My mechanic recommended ACK as being easy to install. My question is how long is the install time with the 406 since it needs to be connected to a GPS source? Also I have a TruTrak, ADS-B, and a G5 that all use the GPS, will this make install more complex? The ACK is priced around $500. The Emerging Life Technologies ELT priced at $1000 has its own GPS source so no connections to my avionics, which makes installs (per them) at about 2 hours, but is twice the price. Am I better off spending more for the easy and less complex install, or is it fairly straight forward and not too long of an install for the ACK? Thanks in advance for the responses.
